Hug Culture is a non-profit cultural association, whose objective is the creation of cultural cooperation networks between Spain and Finland. Hug Culture was born thanks to Gilfer’s initiative, and with the support of artists and cultural producers Rafael Agudo, Anna Mertanen, María Suárez, Vilja Viita, Toni Ledentsa and Susana Nevado.

Its primary dedication is to cultural exchange, emphasizing the creation of networks, co-production and research. Hug Culture strives to immerse Finnish artists and creative agents into the Madrid art scene through artistic work and personal as well as professional experiences in this context. Bidirectionality is also an important element in achieving our primary objective. This means sending Spanish artists and creative agents to Finland with the same purpose.

Artist residency in Madrid

It is very important to us that our artists are immersed in the residence’s home neighbourhood, Hortaleza.

Hortaleza has one of the strongest association networks in Madrid. We seek to bring about collaboration between the artists in residence and the various neighbourhood projects related to culture, social integration, equality, the environment, etc.
